June is Pride Month, and there is no place quite like Washington, D.C. to celebrate it.
As Pride festivities kicked off this month, Mayor Muriel Bowser raised the Pride flag outside the John A. Wilson Building and reflected on what makes both Pride and the District special: the belief that every person deserves to be seen, heard, and fully represented.
That message resonates deeply with us. Pride is a celebration of authenticity, community, and resilience. It is also a reminder that progress is built by people who have the courage to show up as themselves and advocate for a more inclusive future.
This year’s Capital Pride theme — “Exist. Resist. Have the Audacity.” — captures that spirit beautifully. It is a call to live openly, to stand firm in the face of adversity, and to embrace the audacity of being exactly who you are.
Every family is unique, every story is different, and every person deserves dignity, respect, and thoughtful representation.
At dCZ, we are fortunate to serve a diverse community of clients, families, fiduciaries, and professionals. Many of the legal tools we work with — powers of attorney, advance directives, trusts, guardianships, and estate planning documents — are ultimately about ensuring that people can protect the individuals they love and have their wishes honored. Those goals are universal.
This month, we celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and the countless advocates, leaders, and allies who have worked to make Washington, D.C. one of the most welcoming and affirming cities in the country.
Happy Pride Month from dCZ.
