At del Cuadro-Zimmerman, PLLC, we believe that serving our community extends beyond the courtroom. Our team had the privilege of attending the DC Bar Foundation’s Avenues to Justice: The Art of Advocacy, hosted by the Young Lawyers Network Leadership Council at Arnold & Porter.
Founder Judith del Cuadro-Zimmerman was joined by Ann Marie Holder, Esq., along with our summer externs Emma and Heather, for an evening dedicated to advancing one of the legal profession’s most important missions: ensuring meaningful access to justice for all.
Since 2020, Avenues to Justice has raised critical funding for civil legal services throughout the District of Columbia while bringing together attorneys, judges, nonprofit leaders, and community advocates who share a commitment to expanding legal access. This year’s event continued that tradition, raising support for organizations that provide essential legal assistance to individuals and families who otherwise could not afford representation.
The Art of Advocacy
This year’s theme explored the powerful intersection between visual art and legal storytelling. The evening featured the “Glimmer on the Horizon” exhibition, curated by Down Gallery, showcasing works by local DMV artists whose pieces reflected resilience, hope, justice, and the human stories that inspire advocacy.
Through both representational and abstract works, the exhibit demonstrated how art can deepen public understanding of the challenges many clients face — while reminding us that every legal matter ultimately involves people, not just legal issues. The accompanying panel discussion highlighted how legal services organizations increasingly use creative storytelling to educate communities, engage supporters, and amplify the voices of those seeking justice.
Investing in the Future of the Profession
For our team, the evening was about more than fundraising. It was an opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the District, strengthen professional relationships, and introduce the next generation of attorneys to the legal community.
We were especially pleased that our externs, Emma and Heather, were able to experience firsthand the collaborative spirit that defines the D.C. legal profession.
Practicing law is not only about solving legal problems — it is also about serving communities and strengthening the institutions that make justice accessible.
Why It Matters
At dCZ, much of our work involves guiding families through some of life’s most difficult transitions. We see every day how meaningful legal representation can protect vulnerable individuals, preserve family relationships, and ensure dignity throughout the legal process.
Supporting organizations that expand access to civil legal services aligns closely with our firm’s mission to strengthen families and serve those who need trusted legal guidance most.
Looking Ahead
We are grateful to the DC Bar Foundation, the Young Lawyers Network Leadership Council, Arnold & Porter, Down Gallery, and the panelists, artists, sponsors, and volunteers who made the evening possible — an event that celebrated both the legal profession and the power of creative advocacy while raising vital support for civil legal aid in our community.
We look forward to continuing to support the DC Bar Foundation’s mission and to participating in future opportunities to advance access to justice throughout the District.
